CHOICE Response Thanks for writing. This is a very important question. If you are pregnant, then it is very important to see a doctor during your entire pregnancy to make sure that you are safe and healthy. This is called prenatal care. You can visit a doctor called an OB/GYN or obstetrician/gynecologist to get prenatal care. If you have insurance, then you can call the phone number on your insurance card to find out where to go. If you don’t have insurance or don’t want to use your insurance, then you can call CHOICE to find out where to go. Your parents will not find out from you doctor, but if you are using your parent’s insurance for the care it is possible that they will be able to see it on their insurance bill. There are several places throughout the city that provide low or free prenatal care. Being pregnant and deciding to carrying it to full term or the whole 9 months, is a difficult and stressful decision to make for any teen. Hiding that information from your parents may only make it more stressful, and it is not likely that you would be able to keep your pregnancy a secret for the whole time.. And just like drugs and alcohol are not good for a pregnancy, neither is stress. Having parental support can help you have a healthy pregnancy. If you are pregnant, think about speaking to your family about it. Have you ever had to tell your family something serious about you before, and if so, how did they react to it? This may help you to talk to them this time. If you have any further questions about pregnancy, talking to family members, or prenatal care, please give a call to the CHOICE Hotline and speak with a Hotline Counselor.
