Thanks for writing to us. It is normal to have questions after you find out that you have chlamydia or any other STI (sexually transmitted infection). The first thing to do is to get a test, which you have already done. It is very important to take ALL of the medicine that the doctor or clinician gives you. If you skip pills or stop taking them, then the medicine will not cure the infection. It is also very important to let anyone that you have had sex with know that they also need to be tested. Sometimes people can have chlamydia and not realize because they feel fine and they don’t have symptoms. Even if they feel okay, they still need to get tested. And finally, it is important to think about how you can protect yourself from chlamydia and other STIs in the future. This can include using condoms during sex and talking to your partner(s) about being checked at a clinic for STIs. If you have more questions and if you want to speak to someone over the phone, you can call the CHOICE Hotline and speak with a Hotline Counselor about all of these things. Call us at (215) 985-3300 or if you are outside of Philadelphia call 1-800-84-TEENS Monday-Thursday 8:30am-7:30pm, Friday 8:30am-5pm, Saturday 9am-1pm.
